Two renowned university hospitals’ plans to begin trials using Apple’s HealthKit platform and what clinicians should understand about living trusts are among the items included in this week’s recap.
- According to Jacksboro Newspapers, the Texas Medical Board licensed a record number of physicians for the fiscal year that ended last month. (A whopping 3,994 to be exact, which is 400 more doctors than were licensed in the Lone Star State last year!)
- The summer travel season may officially be over, but most Americans have plans to get away within the next three months. News4Jax.com shares the findings of a new AAA survey, which indicates three in four people intend to travel at least 50 miles or more from home—requiring overnight stays—this fall.
- A new Physicians Practice article by Steven Podnos, MD, CFP—critical care physician and fee-only financial planner—and Rachel Podnos, JD, covers what physicians should know about living trusts.
- As reported by The New York Times, 115,000 people will lose their health insurance October 1 because they have been unable to prove citizenship or that they are legal immigrants eligible for coverage under the Affordable Care Act. In addition, 363,000 people could lose financial aid because their incomes could not be substantiated.
- Reuters reports Stanford University Hospital and Duke University are preparing to launch trial programs with diabetes sufferers and chronic disease patients, respectively, using Apple’s HealthKit, which will allow them to track vital stats with patients’ permission.
Happy Friday!
