Update August 4, 2021

COVID hot spots

Broward and Dade counties (Fort Lauderdale and Miami, FL) lead the nation in COVID hospitalizations.  Florida is now the epicenter for the virus with about 20% of new cases.

Other “Hot Spots” include Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, and Alabama as well as peak tourist areas such as Cape Cod, areas of Alaska, and the Florida Keys.

Mask requirements

Masks are still mandatory on commercial airplanes and in airports.

Walt Disney World and Disneyland reinstated their mask mandate on July 30 for all park goers. Most other theme parks will also require masks.

Each city and state can issue its own mandates. For example, in Broward County (Fort Lauderdale area) the city of Pompano Beach has issued a mask mandate in all public places.

For questions about mask requirements where your assignment is located, contact your Weatherby consultant or call 954.343.3050.

COVID testing requirements

As many countries start to accept American travelers, it is still required to have a negative test before re-entering the U.S. (even for those vaccinated).

Car rental update

Avis/Budget Group and Enterprise/National Holdings have reported they are taking deliveries of their “back ordered” vehicles. They hope to have car rental inventories at expected levels by October.

It has been easier to find availability for car rentals. We are hoping by September (when all summer vacations are over) that car rental availability will no longer be an issue.

Hotel update

Hotel prices have increased as demand increased. With fewer people traveling abroad, U.S. hotels are filling up with “locals”. Expect higher occupancy and hotel prices for the next few months.

If you have questions about these or other travel concerns, contact your Weatherby consultant or call 954.343.3050.
