When announcing this year’s PA winner of Locum Tenens of the Year, Weatherby Healthcare President, Luke Woodyard, said, “PAs should be recognized as an integral part of the healthcare team, and I’m honored to recognize Dale for his outstanding contribution to patient care.”
2023 PA locum tenens of the year winner
Dale Lacher, PA-C – Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery
Dale Lacher enlisted in the Army in 1968, just six days after his 18th birthday with the goal of becoming a medic. Two days after he arrived in Vietnam, Dale volunteered to serve as a dust-off medic treating wounded troops and civilians by helicopter. He received 23 air medals and a bronze star while often flying into combat. Shortly after serving, Dale enrolled at Duke University in the first physician assistant program in the United States. He graduated in 1975.
Dale’s first job as a PA was alongside the world-famous heart surgeon, Dr. Denton Cooley, at a heart program doing 30 surgeries a day. Over the past seven years, Dale has worked locum tenens with Weatherby Healthcare. He’s worked on assignments in 13 different states and received exceptional reviews following each one. Dale’s work ethic, knowledge, and compassion have earned him Weatherby’s PA Locum Tenens of the Year award.
