The History of Robots in Healthcare [INFOGRAPHIC]

Robotic medicine

Robotic medicineThe term “robot” was coined in 1920 by Czechoslovakian playwright Karel Capek and has been a focal point in science fiction ever since. Fast forward nearly 100 years and fantasy is, indeed, reality, with mechanical devices performing tasks in a myriad of industries.

Earlier this month, Govtech.com, the online portal to Government Technology, released an infographic developed by BestMedicalDegrees.com that highlights past achievements and the future potential of automation in medicine.

Modern medical knowledge and practice has come a long way from the Stone-Age “cure” of drilling holes to release illnesses from the brain. Today, patients can ingest a tiny, pill-shaped computer that tracks body functions and transmits data wirelessly. And that’s just one example of how mechanization currently transforms the way healthcare is administered.
